A Slice of Saint-Tropez Behind a Palm Springs Wall

Most of Palm Springs plays the same hand: glass walls, breeze-block screens, a nod to Richard Neutra on every corner. Dive doesn't. Tucked behind a discreet gate on East Palm Canyon Drive, this eleven-room hideaway trades midcentury minimalism for something warmer and more Mediterranean — sunburnt color, rattan furniture, a garden that reads more Côte d'Azur than Coachella Valley. It is a small, adults-only property built around one pool, and it has quietly become one of the desert's most talked-about stays, earning a MICHELIN Key for a look and a mood that nothing else in town quite matches.

Why It Works

We chose Dive because it commits fully to a single idea instead of trying to be all things to all guests. There's no lobby to speak of, no conference room, no buffet line — just eleven rooms, a garden and orchard, and a pool built for lounging rather than laps. The adults-only rule isn't a marketing line here; it shapes the pace of the place, from the poolside cocktail hour to the quiet that settles in after dark. Add furnishings selected with real curatorial care and a soundtrack that never feels like an afterthought, and the result is a hotel that feels considered from the parking spot to the last cabana.

Why This Location

Dive sits on East Palm Canyon Drive in the southern reach of Palm Springs, close enough to the airport (under two miles) and the Convention Center (about a mile and a half) to be convenient, far enough from the Village's restaurant row to feel like its own small world behind a wall of hedges. Mt. San Jacinto rises directly behind the property, turning gold at sunset over the pool deck. Guests without a car can walk to a handful of restaurants nearby; everyone else is a short drive from downtown Palm Springs' galleries, vintage shops and the Saturday VillageFest string of stalls along Palm Canyon Drive.

Poolside Is the Entire Point

There's no restaurant to anchor a Dive stay, and that's by design: the pool is the hotel's real common room. Days move between a lounger, a cabana and the jacuzzi, with the infrared sauna and cold plunge for anyone who wants a harder reset before heading back out. Breakfast — croissants, yogurt, hard-boiled eggs — arrives poolside rather than in a dining room, and the same deck turns into the evening's social hub once the desert heat breaks and the cocktail hour starts. It's a small footprint used well, which is precisely what a property this size needs to feel generous rather than cramped.

A Design That Skips the Midcentury Playbook

Where most Palm Springs hotels lean on the town's famous architectural pedigree, Dive borrows its references from the South of France instead — think sun-bleached color, woven textures and furnishings, including pieces from Serena & Lily, chosen for comfort as much as looks. It's a deliberate departure, and it gives the hotel a personality that photographs differently from its neighbors without ever feeling like a costume. The result reads as considered rather than themed: a garden and orchard that soften the desert light, rooms sized for a couple rather than a crowd, and a pool deck that would look just as at home outside Saint-Tropez.

Before You Book

Dive is strictly 21 and over, so it suits a couples' getaway or an adults-only friend group far better than a family trip. There's no full-service restaurant on site, so guests planning to eat every meal in-house should look elsewhere; those happy to walk or drive a short distance for dinner will find the trade-off easy. Pets are welcome, parking and EV charging are included, and the intimate room count means a personal, request-driven pool destination rather than a full-service resort — book with that scale in mind rather than expecting a larger property's amenity list.
