Industrial Chic, Seven Miles from the Vineyards

Redmond is a town of campuses, and the easy thing to build here would have been a competent box for visiting engineers. Archer went the other way. The house reads as industrial chic with what the brand calls a northwest mystique: hard materials warmed up, four separate design palettes across 160 rooms and suites, private balconies on some of them. It sits inside Redmond Town Center, an open-air quarter of more than a hundred shops and restaurants, which gives the hotel a street life most eastside addresses simply do not have. It holds an AAA Four Diamond rating.

Why It Works

We were drawn to the double life this place leads. From Monday to Thursday it is a working hotel, and it is properly equipped for it: a library with business services, a fitness studio with a Peloton, a 24/7 market for the hours when nothing else is open, and nearly nine thousand square feet of indoor event space. From Friday it becomes something else entirely, because Woodinville is seven miles away and the tasting rooms start early. Very few hotels serve both uses without feeling like a compromise. This one does, and the indoor pool helps in a climate that does not guarantee an outdoor one.

Why This Location

Redmond Town Center is the point. Dinner, shopping and a cinema are a walk across the plaza rather than a drive, which changes the shape of an evening when you have landed tired. Microsoft is the neighbor everyone names, with AT&T, Stryker and SpaceX offices also close by, so the weekday clientele is what you would expect. Seattle-Tacoma International Airport is about thirty minutes away and Boeing Field about thirty-five. The real prize is northeast: Woodinville wine country, seven miles off, close enough that a tasting afternoon does not need an overnight of its own.

AKB, and Dinner Without Leaving the Plaza

AKB is the reason you can arrive without a dinner plan. William Abel cooks regional produce into something more considered than hotel food usually manages, the list leans on Washington growers, and the bar keeps to classic cocktails rather than novelty. Breakfast is a la carte, which sounds minor until you have spent a week at buffets. If the kitchen is closed or you simply want a yogurt at midnight, the 24/7 market downstairs covers it. Beyond the doors, Redmond Town Center adds another hundred options within a few minutes on foot.

Rooms in Four Palettes

The 160 rooms and suites are drawn in four palettes rather than one, so the property avoids the corridor-of-clones effect that afflicts hotels this size. Some rooms carry private balconies, worth requesting for the long northwest evenings in summer. The material language follows the public rooms: hard surfaces softened with texture, considered lighting, nothing shouting. Suites add space for the guest who is here for a week rather than a night, and the fitness studio and indoor pool make that week bearable.

What to Know Before You Book

Ask for a balcony room if you are traveling between late spring and early autumn, when the light lasts. Dogs are welcome, so confirm the terms when you book rather than at the desk. The hotel fills on weekdays with corporate business and empties into a quieter, wine-country rhythm at weekends, which is worth knowing whichever of the two you want. A car makes Woodinville and Seattle straightforward; without one, plan on rideshare.
