The Clement Hotel - All Inclusive
What won us over here is how completely The Clement rewrites the idea of a...
The Ameswell Hotel sits in Mountain View, California, built with a design vocabulary borrowed directly from its neighbor, the NASA Ames Research Center, and from the wilderness that surrounds the South Bay. Floor to ceiling windows run through the hotel's 255 rooms, and an extensive art collection, anchored by the Hangar One Art Gallery, carries the aerospace reference through the public spaces rather than leaving it at the entrance. Few hotels in the area commit this specifically to the industry and landscape around them.
We selected The Ameswell for the coherence between its design, its technology, and its setting. The building itself, by BAMO, RYS Architects, and WRNS Studio, was conceived as a single idea rather than assembled from a template, and that same precision shows up in medical grade air filtration that prevents air sharing between rooms and in water filtration systems most hotels do not bother installing. A Michelin Guide listing confirms what the design already suggests: a property built with real intention rather than simply a generous budget.
Mountain View sits at the center of Silicon Valley, and The Ameswell was built to serve the people who work there without resembling the generic business hotels the area is better known for. The property backs onto more than two acres planted with 26 indigenous species, with direct access to hiking and biking trails that most guests would not expect to find steps from a tech campus. It is a location that rewards staying an extra day rather than rushing to the next meeting.
Price: €€€ to €€€€
Vibe: Design forward, tech industry adjacent, grounded in the NASA Ames aesthetic
Rooms: 255, with floor to ceiling windows throughout
Best For: Business travelers and design minded visitors to Silicon Valley
Our Favorite Thing About the Hotel: The Airstream trailer repurposed as a poolside bar
Dining: Roger, Flyby, and the Airstream Bar, three distinct venues on site
Amenities: Heated saltwater pool, Hangar One Art Gallery, 15,000 square feet of event space
Attractions: NASA Ames Research Center, hiking and biking trails, downtown Mountain View
Dining is split deliberately across three venues rather than consolidated into one. Roger handles seasonal California and Mediterranean cooking for a proper dinner, Flyby covers coffee and quick meals for guests moving fast between meetings, and the Airstream Bar, a vintage trailer parked by the pool, serves Cali inspired food and drinks in a setting that has nothing in common with a standard hotel bar. Between the three, the property covers a full day of a guest's schedule without repeating an idea.
The Ameswell treats sustainability as part of the architecture rather than an add on: solar panels, LED lighting, and a hyper efficient HVAC system sit alongside electric car charging stations, and the property has eliminated 96 percent of single use plastic on site. Self driving delivery robots handle some in house deliveries, a detail that fits naturally in a hotel built next to one of the country's most consequential research campuses. None of it reads as a marketing gesture; it reads as the hotel simply being consistent with where it stands.
More than 15,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor meeting space, including the 4,400 square foot Infinity Ballroom with its own floor to ceiling windows, two boardrooms, and a private dining room, make The Ameswell a credible choice for a conference as much as a weekend stay. An event lawn large enough for a sizable tent and a separate meadow lawn give outdoor options that most Silicon Valley hotels cannot offer, extending the hotel's grounds into something closer to a campus of its own.

Our pick here comes down to the building as much as the hotel inside it:...
We kept this one for what it hands over without adding it to the bill....
